Drive solutions are functional and cost-effective to maintain, and require a high level of flexibility of all components that are implemented. This applies to the drives and drive electronics, as well as the corresponding technology.

MOVI-PLC® motion control
MOVI-PLC® is a motion controller for inverters which provides flexible solutions for convenient and powerful automation of drive solutions. Programming in accordance with IEC61131-3 and PLCopen makes it easy to become familiar with the programming, and the extensive libraries and program modules allow for quick implementation of even the most complex machines.
With the common programming languages FUP, KOP, AWL, CFC, Structure Text, and the modular IO system, you can also perform classic PLC tasks on the MOVI-PLC® efficiently.
Universal
MOVI-PLC® can easily be integrated into any drive solution: For example, as an option card in MOVIDRIVE® B inverters or MOVITRAC® B frequency inverters, as well as in the master module of modular MOVIAXIS® multi-axis inverters. It could also be integrated into the decentralized MOVIFIT® drive control or as a compact control on a DIN rail. All SEW-EURODRIVE inverters can be connected using the system bus. Only one tool is required for the engineering of MOVI-PLC® and the inverters. In addition to the programming environment for the MOVI-PLC®, MOVITOOLS® Motion Studio also provides all the tools required for the startup and diagnostics of all SEW-EURODRIVE units.
Scalable
MOVI-PLC® is available in three power classes.
  • MOVI-PLC® basic for the medium power range controls up to 12 axes
  • MOVI-PLC® standard for the medium power range controls up to 16 axes, and facilitates fast engineering and convenient data maintenance using SD cards.
  • MOVI-PLC® advanced for the upper power range controls up to 64 axes, and has very short reaction times using the fast system bus SBUSPLUS. Comprehensive technology functions including the electronic gear unit, electronic cam, and even robotics, make it the ideal solution for demanding servo applications. In addition, various fieldbus types such as PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, PROFINET or Ethernet/IP are available for connecting to a higher-level control. The integrated Ethernet interface is the ideal basis for remote diagnostics and directly connecting to the guiding system.
Powerful
A broad variety of function blocks provide the user with convenient access to the entire drive functionality, and the programming in accordance with the standard IEC 61131 ensures simple handling. Users are able to perform complex drive tasks quickly. The connection of the inverters via the fast, clock synchronous system bus ensures reduced response times and thus an enhanced performance of the drive system, particularly when coordinating multiple axes.

Keeping the access to comprehensive drive functionality as simple as possible is also critical for the implementation. MOVI-PLC® provides drive functionality in the form of configurable function blocks that can be programmed conveniently in accordance with IEC 61131. These modules are adapted to the drive electronics and provide scalable functionalities, from simple single-axis function and universal program modules, to application solutions for multiple axes. The integrated standard blocks of a PLC additionally provide full logic control.

MOVI-PLC® I/O system

MOVI-PLC® I/O system
The MOVI-PLC® I/O system extends the digital and analog interfaces of MOVI-PLC®. Up to 32 modules per bus coupler can be connected via the system bus in degree of protection IP20. When using the fast SBUSPLUS system bus, all inputs/outputs are transmitted in millisecond cycles. This is the ideal solution for high-performance servo applications. Accordingly, MOVI-PLC® can automatically access a large range of inputs and outputs:
  • MOVI-PLC® I/O system
  • I/Os integrated directly in MOVI-PLC®
  • I/O address of the inverter

Remote maintenance with ORA11B

ORA11B/remote maintenance
Remote maintenance also provides convenient access for engineering. The simplest solution merely requires an analog phone line. Signals are converted to ETHERNET via the ORA11B modem, which allows the MOVI-PLC® advanced to be addressed without difficulty. This is an ideal solution if MOVI-PLC® “stand-alone” automates an entire machine. Alternatively, the MOVI-PLC® can be addressed via a higher-level central PLC.

Programming or parameter setting
Motion control with MOVI-PLC® offers three options that will provide functional solutions quickly and easily for every application, irrespective of the complexity of the task or the programming skills of the user.

Function modules: Versatile combinations and flexible use
Direct access to the function blocks (PLCopen) allows for a certain drive function, giving the user a high level of flexibility. They are clearly arranged in libraries according to their functionality and the type of inverter. With a little experience, the user can flexibly combine these function modules to form an optimal program.
Program modules: Optimally combined and efficiently implemented
The program modules contain comprehensive drive functions: From simple functions like positioning, referencing or speed control, to technology functions for controlling an electronic cam or a synchronous operation, or functions for multi-axis interpolations of kinematics. Once these program modules have been integrated, the user merely has to concentrate on programming the most important processes for their application. The program modules conveniently provide the entire drive functionality via one interface. This makes program modules ideal for PLC programmers who want to reduce the work involved in programming the drive functionals.
Application modules: Standardized and operational
Application modules provide standardized functionality via a process data interface for higher-level control. The functionality is adapted to the specific application via simple graphical parameter setting – without the need for programming.
Integrated diagnostics ensure a fast and uncomplicated startup. The following application modules are available:
